Thesis Option
An option is available for individuals interested in pursing a thesis in conjunction with the Master’s in Human Development. The thesis option is strongly encouraged for those wishing to pursue a career in research. The thesis is a valuable, and necessary, experience for an individual interested in eventually applying to a Ph.D. program.
To pursue the thesis option, a student will complete the following additional courses/credits:
- Two research methods or statistics course (6 credits)
- Six credits of thesis directed by a Human Development faculty member
Students interested in this option should discuss it with the faculty, who will provide information on the option. In general, the thesis requires the identification of a thesis committee chair, the formation of a three-person thesis committee, a comprehensive examination, a thesis proposal, and a thesis defense. Most students pursuing a thesis option require a minimum of two years to complete the program.
