HD Master's Symposium and Portfolio Presentation

The HD Master's Symposium and Portfolio Presentation is a celebration of work that students have done throughout the HD Master's Program. The Symposium typically occurs on the 20th day of the Fall semester following the cohort year. On that day, each student presents a 12-15 minute PowerPoint presentation on a topic of choice. The topics usually represent an interest area that has been developing throughout the program. Often the presentation includes an integration of several portfolio projects developed during the program. The presentation can include handouts, displays, and video. The portfolio and any additional exhibit items are on display throughout the day.

Similar to the graduation ceremony, the HD Master's Symposium and Portfolio Presentation is a public recognition of the achievement of prospective graduates. Family members, friends, internship supervisors, and program sponsors are invited and encouraged to attend the event. Whereas the traditional thesis defense customarily includes only the three academic committee members, the HD Master's Symposium is intended as a forum for both the academic and the broader community.
