**Students enroll for credit and begin internship planning in the Spring. During the summer, students complete their internships (400 hrs) and the companion course (online) that advances their final presentation.
***The VT graduate school requires students to be registered for 3 credits during the semester that the thesis is defended. Because the symposium and portfolio presentation are analogous to the thesis defense, students are required to register for 3 credits during the Fall following the cohort year. Virginia Tech confers degrees twice during the year, at the end of spring and the end of fall. When you finish all degree requirements, you can register a "Letter of Completion" from the graduate school for presentation to prospective employers.
