Employer Appeal and a Research
Based Approach
Employer Appeal
of a Master’s
in Human Development
The appeal of this program derives from a simple
fact: we asked employers what expertise and skills
are most in demand in their organizations and agencies.
Based on their suggestions, we designed a program
to meet the needs of tomorrow’s employees
in the human development field. We anticipate high
interest in this practice-oriented program and
job demand in many types of organizations, agencies,
and businesses. Job titles in these organizations
include:
program coordinator
program developer
information specialist
community liaison
director of services
program coordinator
project manager
case manager
policy specialist
Research-Based Approach
The program provides high quality, professional experiences concerning clients,
groups of clients, and human development organizations. We aim for practice-oriented
approaches to advance goals and solve problems. Coursework is grounded in human
development theory and research.
The program is applied social science. We designed each course based on skill
and expertise areas identified by human development employers as critical for
prospective employees. In each of the core Human Development courses, you address
contemporary illustrations or problems and solutions in the field. Each course
also includes a project that becomes part of your portfolio.
Our overall goal is that the program provides a basis for graduates to make important,
valuable, and lasting contributions to the field during their career. Please
note that this degree does NOT prepare graduates for clinical licensure
in a mental health profession.
